Peter A. Chyka,
Pharm.D. is Professor of Pharmacy at The University of Tennessee
and Executive Director of the Southern Poison Center in Memphis,
Tennessee.
He graduated
from the University of Utah with a B.S. in Pharmacy (1975) and
from the University of Minnesota with the Doctor of Pharmacy
degree (1977).
At The
University of Tennessee he holds joint appointments in the
Department of Pharmacy and the Department of Physical
Therapy.
He is a Fellow
of the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology and has been
board-certified by the American Board of Applied Toxicology since
1990.
Dr. Chyka has
authored or co-authored approximately 50 articles in biomedical
journals or books and is currently a member of the editorial
boards of Poisindex, Drug Safety, and the Journal of Pediatric
Pharmacology and Therapeutics. He is also a regular reviewer for
journals such as Annals of Emergency Medicine, Drug Safety and
Pharmacotherapy. In September 2000 he became President-elect of
the American Board of Applied Toxicology.
At the
University of Tennessee he has been honored by receiving the
National Alumni Association Public Service Award (1998) and by
selection to the Academy of Distinguished Teaching Professors
(2001-2003).
His research
interests include methods to minimize gastrointestinal drug
absorption, adverse drug reactions from drugs and dietary
supplements, and poison prevention strategies. |
